BYD's Yangwang division will debut its new ultra-luxury electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates, skipping its home market in China for the initial launch. General Manager Hu Xiaoqing confirmed the global rollout plan this week, though the company has not yet released a specific calendar date for the event.
The vehicle is expected to carry a price tag near 2 million yuan, or approximately $300,000. This valuation places the new model well above Yangwang's current catalog. The brand's most expensive existing car, the extended U8L plug-in hybrid SUV, starts at 1.45 million yuan ($217,000). The entry-level U7 electric sedan begins at 658,000 yuan ($98,000).
Hu Xiaoqing and Executive General Manager Zheng Yu provided details regarding the car's specifications. Zheng Yu stated the vehicle will feature "unprecedented disruptive technology" without listing specific components. Local reports indicate the sedan measures approximately 5,500 mm, or 216 inches, in length. This dimension aligns the car with large luxury sedans like the Rolls-Royce Phantom and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.
The new model introduces several technical firsts for the manufacturer. It features rear-hinged coach doors, a design element previously absent from BYD's lineup. The car also reportedly utilizes the company's first solid-state battery technology. Executive Vice President Stella Li told Carwow.es last month that BYD's initial solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027.
Visual evidence of the car emerged last month when Hu Xiaoqing shared images of the prototype undergoing testing. The vehicle appeared to have a shape and size comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom. The sedan was displayed at a BYD Flash Charging station, a detail that suggests the car will support megawatt flash charging capabilities.
Yangwang serves as the top tier of BYD's automotive hierarchy, positioned above the Denza and FangChengBao sub-brands. The division showcases the company's latest engineering, including the quad-motor e4 platform that produces 1,300 horsepower. This platform is paired with the DiSus-X intelligent body control system, which allows vehicles to perform complex maneuvers such as driving on three wheels.
The launch represents a strategic shift for a manufacturer historically known for affordable vehicles like the Seagull hatchback, which sells for under $10,000 in China. BYD has expanded its product range in recent years to include three-row SUVs, pickup trucks, and electric supercars. The new sedan targets the ultra-luxury segment, competing directly with established European marques.
