Wizz Air flight 4302 made an emergency landing at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport on Sunday after receiving a bomb threat while en route from London Luton to Sofia. The aircraft landed at 11:09 GMT, significantly earlier than its scheduled arrival time of 11:25 GMT in the Bulgarian capital. It had departed Luton at 08:33 GMT.

Hungarian Defence Minister Romulusz Ruszin-Szendis confirmed that the country provided air support for the incident. Following the threat, the flight requested permission to land in Budapest. A Hungarian Defence Forces Gripen fighter jet was dispatched immediately to escort the passenger plane. The fighter jet returned to its base once the aircraft was secured, and police assumed control of the situation on the ground.

Wizz Air stated that the plane taxied to a designated stand for security checks. A spokesperson for the airline said authorities carried out necessary inspections on the aircraft and passengers. The airline later reported that the inspection was completed and nothing was found. Wizz Air said it is cooperating fully with authorities and that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority.

The airline confirmed the plane would depart again shortly after the all-clear. The original destination, Sofia, was to be reached at 13:25 local time. The diversion to Budapest was confirmed by the airline and supported by flight tracking data from FlightAware.
