Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom confirmed that a new bridge and sidewalk project opened to the public on Oct. 23. The infrastructure provides an alternate route for residents in the east Las Vegas area who previously had limited options for entering and exiting their neighborhoods.
The construction was funded by the gas tax. Segerblom stated that the project is part of a larger plan for additional road improvements on the east side in the coming years. The primary goal is to improve access and reduce congestion for local commuters.
Travis Lang, an east Las Vegas resident, reported that the new route significantly reduces his travel time while biking. Lang noted that cutting through the new path is faster than heading down Nellis Boulevard and waiting at traffic lights. He also highlighted the wider sidewalks as a benefit for pedestrians and children.
“It's way faster to cut through this way than head down Nellis and wait,” Lang said. He added that the wider sidewalks provide enough room for everyone on the sidewalk, which he described as a definite improvement.
Another resident, who goes by Jenny, said the bridge has helped shorten her commute. She explained that the new path allows her to avoid some of the heavy traffic on Nellis Boulevard. “I think it's just been good that it's opened up more because we go that way,” Jenny said.
While residents welcome the new access, they have asked drivers to exercise caution when traveling through the nearby neighborhoods. Jenny noted that traffic speeds vary, with some cars moving slowly and others flying by. “Some cars go slow through the neighborhood and some fly by, so sometimes you just gotta slow down,” she said.
Lang expressed support for continued investment in the area. He stated that the east side needs further upgrades and improvements. “So the improvements are good, and I know more is coming,” Lang said.
