For cricket fans planning trips to South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027, securing a seat for the India Pakistan match in Johannesburg will be harder than buying a ticket for the final. The International Cricket Council reported on Monday that the group stage fixture scheduled for October 10, 2027, has generated 8.4 million ticket requests. This figure places the rivalry match ahead of the tournament finale, which is set to take place on November 21, 2027, at the same venue.

The Wanderers cricket ground in Johannesburg will host both high demand games. The ICC stated that the final, also played at the Wanderers, has attracted nearly eight million requests. This marks the fourth consecutive 50 over World Cup where the most sought after group stage match involves India and Pakistan. The governing body noted that the teams were placed in the same group during a closed door ballot, a process distinct from other major global sporting events.

The tournament structure places the two South Asian nations in Group A alongside Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and one qualifier. Group B consists of New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, England, Bangladesh, and a second qualifier. If both teams advance, they could meet again during the Super Seven stage and potentially a third time in the championship match. The competition will run from October 7 to November 21, 2027, featuring 57 matches across 12 venues in three countries.

Ticket applications have drawn a global audience. The ICC recorded over 120 million total requests by Sunday, submitted by 2.8 million unique fan accounts from 193 countries. South Africa, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, and Australia led in registration numbers. Fans from the African continent, including host nations, accounted for 14.9 million of the total applications.

The online ballot for tickets opened on October 1 and will close at midnight Central African Time on November 21. This edition returns the World Cup to Africa for the first time in 24 years. The 2003 tournament was hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya. Australia defeated India by 125 runs in that final at the Wanderers. South Africa also hosted the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, where India beat Pakistan at the same ground.

Zimbabwe will introduce its new stadium at Victoria Falls to the international calendar for this event. Namibia will host men’s ICC Cricket World Cup matches for the first time. The ICC said the demand for the India Pakistan clash has surpassed that of the final, a feat traditionally reserved for the championship game. The organization said it is monitoring the ballot as applications continue to be processed.
