Haris Rauf lost 20 percent of his match fee for conduct during Sunday's One-Day International. The International Cricket Council cited a heated exchange with England's Will Jacks as the cause.
The incident occurred at the end of the 46th over. Rauf appealed for a wide at the non-striker's end. He then argued with Jacks while raising his bat. Umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid issued a warning. Rauf continued the exchange and brushed past the official.
Pakistan won the match by one wicket. The team chased England's total of 242. They were 154-9 before Shadab Khan and Rauf added 89 for the final wicket. Rauf struck the winning run. The victory puts Pakistan in the series final.
The ICC classified the conduct as a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2. One demerit point was added to Rauf's record. His total now stands at five points. This was his third offence within 24 months.
Rules state that four demerit points within 24 months convert into two suspension points. Those points equal a ban from one Test, two ODIs, or two T20Is. Rauf served a two-match ODI ban last year. He reached eight demerit points after three Asia Cup games against India. If he reaches eight points again, the bans will double.
England also paid a penalty. The team was fined 15 percent of its match fee. They finished three overs short of their target. Article 2.22 imposes a 5 percent fee loss for each unbowled over.
Rauf and England captain Harry Brook admitted their offences. They accepted the sanctions proposed by Jeff Crowe. No formal hearings were needed. Umpires Rashid Riaz, Sharfuddoula, Wayne Knights, and Nassir Hussain brought the charges. Pakistan faces the final on Saturday. England plays Sri Lanka on Thursday.
