Apple will unveil a fully redesigned MacBook Pro on October 28 at an event titled "Pro and tell." The new laptop arrives with a major physical overhaul but no increase in processing power.
Reports indicate the device features a new industrial design, a lighter and slightly thinner body, and an OLED display. The screen supports touch input, a first for the MacBook Pro line. It also drops the traditional notch in favor of a Dynamic Island. A C2 cellular modem is a less certain possibility.
The new model uses the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips introduced nearly eight months ago. This means the laptop offers no performance gain over current models. Apple is reportedly skipping the M6 Pro and M6 Max processors entirely. The company plans to fast-track M7 Pro and M7 Max chips for 2027, leaving this redesign in a gap between generations.
Pricing remains a point of speculation. The redesign may carry a premium, potentially pushing the starting price to $2,999. That would cost buyers more for a machine that is not faster than its predecessor. Analysts suggest Apple might keep the current M5 Pro and M5 Max prices, but that scenario is unlikely given the current memory crisis.
Apple has not confirmed the rumored details. The October 28 event will clarify how much of the reporting is accurate. It will also show how the company markets a redesigned laptop that relies on existing silicon to professional users who have held off on buying M5 machines.
