Apple launched a hidden digital tribute for the 25th anniversary of the original iPod.

The interactive element appears on broken pages of the Apple Music website.

Below the standard error message, a prompt asks users to give the device a spin.

Those who click the prompt access a fully functional virtual player.

The virtual device contains a library of 1,029 playable songs.

The interface mirrors the original hardware with sections for Playlists, Artists, Songs, and Settings.

Engadget reported that the click wheel and controls respond to user input.

The experience functions better on touch screens than on desktop computers.

Engadget noted that the writer had trouble getting the feature to work on a desktop.

The outlet recommended using a phone or tablet for a more authentic feel.

The music selection reflects the early 2000s era.

Artists included in the library are Baha Men, blink-182, and Eminem UK-based users also saw Daniel Bedingfield, The Fratellis, and Klaxons. Engadget said it was unsure if the same artists appear for users in the US. Playback is capped at 90 seconds per track. Notebook Check found a second hidden feature. The Breakout-style game Brick is available on the virtual device. It was a genuine bonus on the first iPod. Users can access the game by holding the center button on the About screen for a few seconds. The feature does not require an active Apple Music account. Apple did not explain the placement of the tribute on error pages. Engadget expressed surprise at the effort invested in a page most visitors will never see.
