Defense technology firm Anduril and chipmaker Qualcomm are introducing a new line of laptops called BlueChip in early 2027. The initial models are designed for the United States military and feature ruggedized hardware. The companies stated that the first units will be designed and assembled in the United States.

Anduril plans to assemble the laptops at its Arsenal-1 facility in Ohio. The devices will use Arm-based processors from Qualcomm's Snapdragon X series. Anduril founder Palmer Luckey and Qualcomm chief executive Cristiano Amon discussed the project during a virtual media session. They cited the goals of keeping money in the domestic economy and creating local jobs.

The partners did not specify how much of the supply chain is currently located in the US. Luckey said the percentage of components made domestically at launch is to be determined. He noted that the display glass, the frame around the display, and parts of the ribbon component are planned to be American-made from the start. He added that the first shipping unit will likely not be one hundred percent American.

Federal procurement rules require a device to contain sixty-five percent domestic content to qualify as American-made. The current plan for the first BlueChip laptops appears to fall below that threshold. Anduril provided a promotional image showing hardware stamped with the phrase Built in America.

Qualcomm intends to manufacture the processors for these laptops at its TSMC Arizona facility. A Qualcomm communications representative said the company has no further details to share regarding the specific investment amount for that production. The chips are a central part of the hardware architecture.

The first prototype includes a carrying handle similar to a rifle strap. This design allows military personnel to transport the device quickly. The laptop will operate on Windows or two undisclosed versions of Linux. The ruggedized build is intended to withstand the physical demands of field use.

Luckey stated that BlueChip is funded entirely by Anduril and Qualcomm. The project does not rely on government subsidies. The company is targeting military users first because they have the strictest hardware and security requirements. This approach also positions Anduril to pursue large government contracts for computer hardware.

After the defense sector, Anduril plans to offer the laptops to first responders and public safety agencies. Consumer-level laptops are the final target in the product roadmap. Luckey described the worst-case scenario as a low-volume product for critical industries. He said those sectors desperately need a domestic option for their computing needs.

Anduril is known for manufacturing drones and autonomous weapons. Luckey has a history of controversial public statements and involvement in consumer electronics. The company is now expanding into the personal computer market with a focus on domestic manufacturing capabilities.

The partnership aims to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains for critical technology. The first BlueChip laptops will launch in the first quarter of 2027. Anduril will handle the assembly of the units in Ohio using components from its partners.
