Shoppers in Everett now have a dedicated space for 1980s and 1990s pop culture items. Lunapop Vintage, located at 4027 Rucker Ave., opened its doors in September. The store features a 2,000-square-foot inventory that includes a quarter pencil machine from California and a giraffe wearing a wrestler's mask.
Co-owner Jono Rodgers, who operates the business with his wife Catie Rodgers, describes the retail environment as intentionally distinct from traditional antique shops. Catie Rodgers said the goal is to create an atmosphere that is bright, crazy, overwhelming, and stimulating. The visual design relies heavily on color, ranging from the yellow-orange trinket-laying chicken machine at the entrance to retro hats suspended from the ceiling.
The Rodgers are longtime collectors who previously sold items from a booth at Hewitt Estates & Antiques. Jono Rodgers noted that the couple sources merchandise through auctions, estate sales, and back alley garage sales. He said the collection includes childhood items that often go unnoticed until a customer sees them in person.
The store has gained visibility through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. Jono Rodgers stated that the business received a large volume of engagement from customers who visited the shop. He added that his son, Eli, who works at the location, has not yet completed a promised grand opening video. The family documents updates on new stock and deals through their social media channels.
Sustainability is a core component of the business model. Catie Rodgers said the store lives in a disposable society, so they source goods that already exist to keep their environmental footprint small. Jono Rodgers pointed to the pencil vending machine as a personal favorite, noting that he has wanted one since childhood because he used to collect NFL pencils.
Lunapop Vintage operates six days a week. The store is closed on Mondays. Hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. Hours extend to 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
