Sandia Area Federal Credit Union commenced construction on two new facilities in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho. The new branches are scheduled to open in late 2027.

The Albuquerque location will occupy the address 1105 Snow Vista SW. The Rio Rancho site will be situated at 4551 Safelite NE, near U.S. 550. These additions will increase the credit union's total branch count to nine.

Sandia Area serves nine counties in New Mexico and holds more than $1.4 billion in assets. This places it as the fourth-largest credit union in the state. The institution currently has roughly 69,000 members.

CEO and President Kevin Todd stated that the customer base has grown by approximately 7% annually in recent years. While a portion of this growth occurred online, the leadership team identified an opportunity to expand its physical footprint. Todd noted that both selected sites are areas of growing populations and heavy commuter corridors.

Both new locations will operate as full-service branches with drive-thrus. Each site will include four to five offices. The Rio Rancho branch will feature a 12-person conference room available for reservation by local events.

The last new site added by Sandia Area was the Santa Fe branch in February 2022. Since that opening, the credit union has renovated several existing branches to modernize their spaces. The renovations emphasize an open feel rather than traditional teller lines and bulletproof glass. Three sites have already received this update, including the Coors Branch, which reopened this weekend.

Momentum, an architecture firm specializing in credit union branches, designed the new locations to match this modern aesthetic. Todd indicated that the credit union is currently seeking another site in the Albuquerque area for a tenth branch.
