The Bar Method has opened a second studio in Salt Lake City's Avenues neighborhood. The expansion follows 15 years of operation at the company's original location in Sugarhouse. The new space allows the fitness brand to serve a wider section of the city while retaining the instructional model established at its first site.
The Sugarhouse studio has operated for a decade and a half. Its classes combine strength training, flexibility work, and mindful movement. The workouts are designed to be low-impact but challenging. Instructors focus on controlled movements and precise technique. Clients progress at their own pace under guided supervision.
Carrie Goodwin, a small business owner in Sugarhouse, stated that the 15-year mark represents more than the number of classes taught. She noted that the milestone reflects the relationships built with clients who continue to attend. Goodwin said the success of the Sugarhouse location created the confidence to expand. She added that the company aims to share the Bar Method experience with more Salt Lake City residents.
The studio has partnered with local organizations to incentivize client attendance or fundraise for causes. These partners include the Utah Symphony, Huntsman Cancer Institute, Utah Presents, ArtHaus, and Great Harvest. The company attributes its longevity to both its workout methodology and the community it has cultivated.
Alex Smith, co-owner of the Avenues location, said the brand goes beyond physical benefits. Smith emphasized that the studios strive to create a sense of connection and belonging. He noted that for many clients, attending class is an opportunity to invest in a connected active lifestyle. The variety of class formats allows clients to meet different fitness goals.
The company now operates two locations in Salt Lake City. The Avenues studio maintains the personalized instruction and challenging classes found in Sugarhouse. The Bar Method focuses on strength, flexibility, posture, and mindful movement. Both studios offer expert-led classes designed to help clients feel stronger and more confident through movement.
