General Compute Inc. announced on Tuesday that it closed a $100 million Series A funding round. The Covina-based company operates in the neocloud sector, providing specialized cloud services distinct from the massive storage systems of traditional tech giants.

Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures co-led the investment. Santa Monica-based BOLD Capital Partners, Covina-based Village Global, and Fuse Venture Partners also participated in the round.

Most competitors in the neocloud space focus on training AI models using large datasets. General Compute prioritizes inference, the process of deploying trained models for real-time use. The company is building infrastructure to support specific chips designed for this function.

The startup has secured a range of inference-focused hardware from manufacturers including Positron, Cerebras, and SambaNova. This approach allows the firm to target the specific computational demands of running live AI applications rather than just processing training data.

Finn Puklowski, co-founder and chief executive officer, said in a statement that the era of one-size-fits-all AI hardware is over. He noted that inference is becoming the largest and most complex workload in computing. Puklowski stated that the company aims to bridge the gap between advanced alternative chips and the businesses that require them.

General Compute plans to launch its first infrastructure deployment in the first quarter of 2027.
