A man with a disability was killed in Daraa province earlier this week, sparking nationwide protests across Syria. Syrians rallied in Damascus and Homs, denouncing Israeli attacks and incursions in southern provinces. The slogan 'We are all Moaz' was seen at rallies, referring to the man with special needs killed by Israeli fire. Footage showed marchers carrying posters that read 'We are all Moaz.'
Israeli forces advanced into Quneitra province and blocked several roads. Since December 2024, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria and made frequent incursions into its territory. Israeli troops have also bulldozed olive groves, set up checkpoints, and detained residents in the area.
The family of a Syrian man seized by Israel called for his release outside a UN building in Damascus. Children held up posters reading 'I want my dad.' State media reported that Israeli forces have maintained a presence in southern Syria, where they seek to establish a broader demilitarised area.
The Israeli military has vowed to keep troops in a 'security zone' in southern Syria. Israel also sent troops into a UN-patrolled buffer zone that had separated Israeli and Syrian forces on the Golan Heights since 1974.
