Los Angeles police arrested a suspect on Wednesday morning in a fatal car crash that occurred in late September. The detention comes 36 days after a 16-year-old boy died and his sister was seriously injured in South Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department identified Raygine Glentasia Evans as the driver involved in the incident. Officers located and took him into custody in the city of Los Angeles at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to police records, the collision happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 22. Evans was driving a blue 2025 Nissan Sentra eastbound on 60 Street near 10th Avenue. Investigators stated the vehicle was traveling at high speed when it struck two pedestrians.
Hernan Martinez, 16, died at the scene of the accident. His 14-year-old sister was transported to a hospital with severe injuries. Officials noted that the siblings and their mother were walking in an unmarked crosswalk, although a stop sign was present at the location.
Witnesses reported that both the driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot immediately after the impact. One observer described seeing a girl exit the driver’s side and a man exit the passenger side before they ran away.
Authorities indicated that additional details regarding the case are scheduled for release on Thursday.
