A Port Hueneme man is in custody with a $50,000 bail set after being charged with killing a pedestrian in Oxnard while allegedly driving under the influence.
Ventura County prosecutors filed charges against Jan Grissinger, 53, for the collision that occurred around 10:53 p.m. on October 22, 2026. The incident took place at the intersection of East González Road and Snow Avenue. Grissinger ran a red light and struck Linda Marrón as she crossed in a designated crosswalk. Investigators classified the event as a hit and run because Grissinger continued driving for several miles before crashing into a fence. He did not stop to check on the victim. Marrón died from the injuries sustained in the impact.
The district attorney's office outlined four specific counts against the driver. These include gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, driving under the influence causing death, and leaving the scene of an accident. Grissinger appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The case follows a pattern of fatal traffic accidents in the region involving impaired drivers. Authorities emphasized that the suspect failed to yield to the pedestrian at the intersection. The financial obligation for his release is currently set at $50,000. He remains in the custody of law enforcement officials.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 5, 2026, at the Ventura County Superior Court. This date marks the next formal step in the legal process for the defendant.
